Don Deeble Sports Star Award
STAR is on the hunt for the next batch of talented junior sports stars for its Don Deeble Rising Sports Star award.
The award boasts a monthly $1000 prize for the junior sportsperson chosen as one of 10 nominees for the financial year and puts them in the running for the grand prize of $5000 and the two runner-up prizes of $2500.
The 2008-09 winner, Danielle Schubach, was awarded a total of $6000 to go towards her blossoming hockey career, which culminated this year with her Hockeyroos’ debut.
The award, which is run by the Sunshine and Western Region Sports Club (SWRSC) in conjunction with the Yarraville Club Cricket Club and Star News Group, is open to junior sportspeople in the Brimbank and western suburbs.
The SWRSC is also looking to offer additional financial assistance, outside the Don Deeble award, to budding sports people to help further their careers.
