Young Achiever of the Year
Mohammed Isah
2008 Young Achiever of the Year
The Young Achiever of the Year for 2008 is Mohammed Isah.
In October 2007 Mohammed was the successful applicant for the Mayoral Young Potential Award which made him an automatic nominee for the Young Achiever award.
His application was considered amongst a competitive pool of nominees and was found to be the strongest applicant.
He has been recognised for his achievements over the years and particularly for his recent contributions to the Wyndham community.
Mohammed has shown dedication and enthusiasm in working with, and improving outcomes for, people in the community, especially newly arrive and culturally and linguistically diverse young people.
In recent years Mohammed has given his time to work with a range of organisations where he has worked on worthy projects such as the establishment of a homework club for migrants and refugees, a multicultural holiday program, recreational activities and fundraising events.
In 2007 he presented at the National Youth Affairs Conference where he shared his knowledge on the difficulties newly arrived refugees face and ways that this can be addressed.
Mohammed is held in high regard by those he has worked with and is seen as a caring, hardworking and admirable individual who has a positive outlook and real commitment to improving outcomes for those in the community, particularly those most at risk.
Mohammed is currently studying Social Welfare at Victoria University and hopes to work as a social worker and continue his work with young people experiencing disadvantage in the community and those from culturally diverse backgrounds.
At the Wyndham Community Awards Presentation Night on 14 March 2008 Mohammed’s achievements will be celebrated along with other community award winners for the year.
