Hand Brake Turn
Hand Brake Turn is about giving disadvantaged young people a real opportunity to get their lives on track and carve out a successful pathway for the future.
Hand Brake Turn has seen Concern Australia turn young lives around since 1985, through its Hand Brake Turn (HBT) Centres in Dandenong and Geelong, and our centre at Sunshine, Western Melbourne (Victoria) as well as Central Coast (New South Wales), and is supported by a National Advisory Board.
Concern Australia works for a time when every young person has equal and ready access to the best opportunities, the most promising future and every possibility of achieving their dreams and fulfilling their potential... regardless of their background.
Hand Brake Turn is about giving disadvantaged young people a real opportunity to get their lives on track and carve out a successful pathway for the future. As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Concern Australia provides HBT participants the opportunity to complete an automotive course and graduate with a Certificate 1 in Automotive, and present their completed course vehicle to a Victim of Crime.
HBT also helps turn lives around by providing Under the Hood courses for year 9 students at risk of premature termination of their education, and Rev it Up! for young people with disabilities.
The HBT centres rely heavily on the support and interaction of local and national businesses through its Work Placement Scheme, Corporate Partnerships, 3 Way - Professional Development Training (Leadership - Coaching - Mentoring), Donate a Car program and the generous support from the community.
