    Having troubles at home?
    Mediation may be the answer

Mediation is a process used to help people talk about issues that are causing stress and arguments within the family home. These issues may be things like privacy and trust, curfews, household chores, school work or friends.

Mediation is when a family meet with a mediator to talk openly about issues without yelling or arguing with each other.

Mediation is a voluntary, short-term process that is guided by professional mediators. Mediators do not take sides.

    Mediators help the family to:
    ·        stay focused on the issue and the future
    ·        be respectful of other family members
    ·        participate  in the mediation session
    ·        explore options and consider alternatives
    ·        reach a shared agreement

In Mediation, family members chose what they want to talk about, how those issues make them feel, how they would like things to be in the future and what they can do to resolve the issues.

All family members involved in mediation are responsible for making decisions about how to resolve issues.

Mediation sessions take place in a neutral environment and it is a confidential service. However, if there are concerns for a persons safety these will be discussed with appropriate people.

UnitingCare Werribee Support and Housing offer a free mediation service to young people aged 12 – 25 years, and their family, who live, work or study in Wyndham and Hobsons Bay.

The Mediation service is an early intervention program aimed at preventing youth homelessness. It is available to families who have a young person thinking about leaving the family home, or who have already left.
